The South African rand is trading in a volatile territory as we are entering a long weekend. Yesterday the local unit reached a high of 19.0375 as the USD received increased selling interest. The predicted trading range for the rand today is between 18.7500 to 19.1500.
The South African Reserve Bank left rates unchanged in yesterday’s decision, even though two members voted for a 25bps rate hike. Various central banks also made rate decisions yesterday. Central Banks in England, Japan and Switzerland all left rates unchanged. Central Banks in Sweden and Norway spiked rates by 25bps, and Turkey increased rates by an expected 500bps.
The rand will look for support at 18.81, 18.68 and then a low of 18.56. The resistance levels for the rand are at 19.06, 19.17, following with a high of 19.28.
